CNN Issues More Fact Checks on Walz’s False Claims About Vance and Trump

From inappropriate couch interactions to constant harping on “Project 2025,” Democratic VP Tim Walz shows that his imagination is almost as wild as his far-left America-last policies…and possibly just as destructive. How bad are a Democrat’s lies when CNN is forced to issue fact-checks to set the record straight?
Pretty bad, apparently. CNN recently published some of the whoppers that Walz is spinning. And they’re not the “hold the pickles, hold the lettuce” Whoppers we love. These are lies that Walz is actively spinning. Hold on to your fries – these whoppers are egregious enough to gain the attention of Biden’s signature news outlet.
According to CNN, the Minnesota governor has made at least three false statements in the past two weeks about Republican vice presidential candidate Senator JD Vance from Ohio and former President Donald Trump.
First up is Walz’s claim that Vance criticized recent interest rate cuts. In a speech on Saturday in Pennsylvania, Walz talked about an event where Vance led the audience in booing after mentioning the recent drop in interest rates. Walz questioned who boos for lower interest rates.
However, this claim from Walz is not accurate. Vance did not say “how terrible is that” in response to the Federal Reserve’s September rate cut, nor did he encourage the crowd to boo. At a Vance event last Wednesday in Raleigh, North Carolina, the crowd started booing on their own after a reporter asked Vance about the rate cut and suggested it would help many people with inflation.
Vance began to respond neutrally by saying, “Well look, my reaction is …” but the crowd booed the question, causing him to pause briefly. He then stated that the Fed’s half-point reduction wasn’t enough to offset the inflation families experienced during the Biden-Harris administration, but it was better than nothing.
So, CNN rules that while Vance didn’t react positively to the rate cut, he didn’t criticize it, as Walz claimed in the speech.
Two of Walz’s false claims are about Project 2025, a detailed plan from the Heritage Foundation for the next Republican administration. This project has also been mentioned in several false or misleading statements from Vice President Kamala Harris’s campaign this summer.
In a speech on Saturday in Pennsylvania, Walz mentioned that Vance said that when they gain power, they will use Project 2025. According to Walz, Vance said they would “be ruthless” in exercising power.
However, according to CNN fact-checkers, Walz’s claim is untrue. Vance never said they “will use” Project 2025 in that context. He made that comment before Project 2025 was even created. Vance spoke in May 2021, while the Heritage Foundation launched Project 2025 in April 2022, and the detailed recommendations for the project were released in April 2023.
In the May 2021 interview with The Federalist, Vance said it is important to be ruthless when exercising power. He also pointed out that conservatives have lost every major powerful institution in the country, except maybe churches and religious institutions. He noted that achieving real change will require completely replacing the existing ruling class with a new one. This is the “ruthlessness” Vance referred to.
In July, CNN highlighted that a social media post from Harris’s campaign wrongly claimed these same Vance comments as proof that he endorsed Project 2025. In July, just days before he became Trump’s running mate, Vance mentioned that Project 2025 includes some good ideas and things he disagrees with.
But Project 2025 is the debunked devil Democrats can’t let go of.
In a speech last Tuesday in North Carolina, Walz claimed that Trump is trying to create a new government group to monitor all pregnancies to enforce abortion bans. He made an even stronger claim in Wisconsin on September 14, saying people would have to register with a new federal agency when they get pregnant.
However, CNN warns these claims are false. Project 2025 does not propose requiring people to register their pregnancies with any federal agency, and there is no evidence that Trump is attempting to create such a government group.
Project 2025 suggests the federal government should gather anonymous data from each state about abortions and miscarriages. Most states, including Walz’s Minnesota, already provide anonymous abortion data to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) voluntarily.
Walz has never met a lie he didn’t like. CNN has never met a lie they couldn’t spin. If CNN is forced to fact-check Walz, it could be a sign that there is a hint of integrity still alive in the mainstream media.
Much more likely, there is one more brave CNN journalist on the unemployment line.
