Socialism Is Coming — Can Trump Stop It?

President Donald Trump issued a strong warning to New Yorkers as the city’s mayoral race heads to the finish line. In a surprise announcement, Trump endorsed former Democratic Governor Andrew Cuomo for mayor over Republican candidate Curtis Sliwa — all in an effort to block Democratic Socialist Zohran Mamdani from winning the election.

Trump made the endorsement official on Truth Social, writing that Mamdani’s far-left agenda would destroy what he called “the greatest city in the world.”

He said, “If Communist Candidate Zohran Mamdani wins the Election for Mayor of New York City, it is highly unlikely that I will be contributing Federal Funds, other than the very minimum as required, to my beloved first home, because of the fact that, as a Communist, this once great City has zero chance of success, or even survival!”

Trump added, “It can only get worse with a Communist at the helm, and I don’t want to send, as President, good money after bad. It is my obligation to run the Nation, and it is my strong conviction that New York City will be a Complete and Total Economic and Social Disaster should Mamdani win.”

The president warned that Mamdani’s embrace of socialist policies would wreck the city’s economy and destroy jobs.

He said, “His principles have been tested for over a thousand years, and never once have they been successful. I would much rather see a Democrat, who has had a Record of Success, win, than a Communist with no experience and a Record of complete and total failure.”

Mamdani, who once served as a state assemblyman, has run his campaign on a socialist platform that includes rent control expansions, wealth taxes, and “climate justice” programs. Trump’s message to voters was clear: stop Mamdani before it’s too late.

Trump also took aim at Sliwa’s struggling campaign, suggesting that votes for him would effectively hand the race to the socialist candidate.

He said, “We must also remember this — A vote for Curtis Sliwa (who looks much better without the beret!) is a vote for Mamdani. Whether you personally like Andrew Cuomo or not, you really have no choice. You must vote for him, and hope he does a fantastic job. He is capable of it, Mamdani is not!”

The former president’s endorsement marks a rare move — choosing an independent candidate over a Republican — but it underscores how determined he is to keep New York from falling further under left-wing control.

Polling released by Atlas Intel shows Mamdani ahead with 44 percent support, followed by Cuomo at 39 percent and Sliwa at just 16 percent. With those numbers, Trump’s warning may be the last effort to consolidate opposition to Mamdani before election day.

For Trump, New York City remains deeply personal. It’s where his business empire began, and where he says he watched firsthand as liberal policies drove the city into chaos, crime, and decline. In his message to voters, he made it clear that he doesn’t plan to pour federal resources into a city that “chooses communism over common sense.”

While it’s uncertain whether Trump’s last-minute endorsement will shift the outcome, the move has shaken up the political landscape just hours before voters head to the polls.

The stakes couldn’t be higher. If Cuomo manages to rally enough support from moderate Democrats and independents, it could be enough to stop Mamdani’s socialist push. If not, Trump warns, the city he once called “the heartbeat of America” could face a future of economic collapse and social decay.
