Poll Shock: 66% Say Democrats Have No Leader

A staggering new poll from The Economist/YouGov has laid bare what many Americans already suspected: the Democrat Party has no clear leader.
The numbers aren’t even close. A full 66% of respondents said no, Democrats do not have a clear leader. Another 27% weren’t even sure—suggesting confusion reigns. Just 7% believe the party has a defined figurehead at all.
Even Democrats themselves admit the problem. Only 17% of self-identified Democrats believe their party has a leader. Meanwhile, 58% of Democrats agree with the majority of Americans that they are leaderless. Among liberals? Two-thirds say the same.
This isn’t just a political problem—it’s a national embarrassment for the Left.
A Power Vacuum—and Chaos to Match
Without a leader, the Democrats are lurching from one political gimmick to the next. With Joe Biden now out of the 2024 picture and Kamala Harris thoroughly rejected by voters, the party is flailing. Opportunists like Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-TX) have filled the void by turning up the volume—and the cringe.
Crockett rose from obscurity through social media stunts, angry rants, and juvenile name-calling. She made national headlines by accusing “white supremacists” of causing 80% of the country’s violent crime—an inflammatory, baseless claim. She also drew backlash after referring to paralyzed Texas Gov. Greg Abbott as “Governor Hot Wheels” during a Human Rights Campaign dinner, trying to brush off the insult by saying she was referencing his immigration policies, not his disability. Few bought it.
She capped off the month by claiming her birthday wish was to “take down” Elon Musk, echoing the increasingly radical “Tesla Takedown” mob. The same mob now under federal scrutiny for dozens of violent attacks on Tesla dealerships nationwide.
This is what fills the void when a party has no center of gravity. Empty suits and social media stars chasing clicks, while Americans face skyrocketing inflation, open border chaos, and global instability.
Obama’s Shadow and Kamala’s Collapse
Barack Obama, once the party’s presumed moral compass, is now part of the problem. A new book reveals he worked behind the scenes to torpedo Kamala Harris’s campaign after Biden bowed out. According to the authors of “FIGHT: Inside the Wildest Battle for the White House,” Obama didn’t trust her to carry the party forward—and deliberately delayed endorsing her for five crucial days after Biden’s exit.
His cold shoulder sent a loud message: Even Obama doesn’t believe in the bench.
That silence echoed throughout the party. High-profile figures like Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer abandoned Biden, George Clooney penned a brutal op-ed calling for him to step aside, and other longtime allies simply vanished. This is not a party unified around a vision—this is a political vacuum dressed up in recycled talking points.
The GOP Contrast: Focus, Action, and Momentum
Compare this with the Republican Party under Donald Trump, who has made bold moves in just ten weeks: record deportations, trade tariffs that put America first, and a roaring economy already showing signs of recovery. Trump’s leadership is decisive, unflinching, and backed by a coalition that’s growing—not imploding.
Meanwhile, Democrats are caught in a civil war between aging establishment elites and radical activists like Crockett. Voters can see the split—and according to this poll, they don’t see anyone leading the charge.
Bottom Line
The Democrat Party isn’t just rudderless. It’s adrift in a sea of unserious attention-seekers and ideologues who confuse outrage for leadership. Voters see the dysfunction. And as this latest poll shows, even Democrats can’t deny the obvious anymore:
There is no captain on this sinking ship.
